With technology like MagicLeap's Dynamic Digitized Lightfield and the opportunity presented by autonomous vehicles AR advertising will be the new frontier of customer engagement. This technology would require a few key components:
1. Standardized format for content submission
2. Multiplatform distrobution
3. Inhouse creatives to onboard advertisers
4. Legal help re: "Displaying" advertisments on or over real property, and the owners rights to rev share.
Obviously the platform owners will want to own their own advertising channels but being someone who's already thought through much of the hard stuff would be a valuable assett.

I'd love to see this happen. I love AR and I would love to stop looking at my phone when seeing any landmarks or POI's

Would people pay for a device to see the AR or would it be built into cars, etc?

I see this idea being a layer to personal and public AR platforms. Sit in an autonomous uber and don't have a headset? BillboardAR recognizes you by your phone and Taylor's the AR experience in the vehicle to you.
On personal applications like google glass/magic leap this is a package/oem service.
